After months of hard work and investment, another residential rehab is close to completion in Mount Washington. The single family residential renovation reflects another successful outcome of the MWCDC’s 10-year Neighborhood Housing Strategy. A brief report from Thursday night's Forum Meeting: 1) The Hilltop Healthcare Center is moving to a beautiful 7,000 square foot space in the South Hills Retirement Residence on Ruth Street and will be opening July 28th. The Center will be open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and serves both the insured and the uninsured with pediatric, physician, psychiatric and podiatrist services. 2) The Lofts of Mount Washington, the redevelopment of Prospect School, is on target for a September opening. A.M. Rodriguez Associates inc. is planning a special opening event for community members to see the newly refinished apartments (details coming soon). Rents will range in price from $750 for an efficiency to $2,000 for a 3 bedroom. 3) In response to concerns from residents who live on and near Grandview Avenue, the police will increase their presence along the street to address safety issues arising from speeding cars and motorcycles. Discussion was also held about whether more stop signs are needed for Grandview Avenue. 4) The MWCDC is seeking nominations for Board members. Resumes are due to by July 31, 2014. Candidates must: reside, own property or own a business in teh 15211 zip code; be at least 18 years old by election day; be a member of the MWCDC by 9/16/2014; and have access to and use email for Board communications. Candidates with experiences or a background in community planning, real estate development, fundraising, public safety or who have experience partnering with universities will be highly sought as will business owners. 5) Only members who have registered as members by September 16, 2014 are eligible to vote in October's election.
